Q: What is Orillia Christian School all about?
A: Orillia Christian School supports Christian families in educating to equip the mind, heart and body of children through Christ-centred curriculum and teaching for service in the world.

Q: What grades are offered at Orillia Christian School?
A: We offer programs from Junior Kindergarten through Grade 8. The Junior and Senior Kindergarten programs run part-time on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. (Full-time kindergarten options are offered as well.) Currently, our grades 1-8 classes are split grades with grade 4 being a singular grade for the 2023-2024 school year. (Grade 1/2, 2/3, 4, 5/6, and 7/8 classes. This varies year to year depending on enrolment numbers.)

Q: Does OCS offer sports?
A: We offer a variety of sport opportunities through our intramural program and inter-school sports league. Through these opportunities, students gain athletic skills and learn the value of fitness, teamwork, and sportsmanship.

Q: Who can enroll at Orillia Christian School?
A: Enrollment at OCS is open to Christian families. All potential OCS families will show involvement in a local Bible-believing Church.

Q: What curriculum is taught at Orillia Christian School?
A: All of our curriculum is taught from a Christ-centred perspective, with the Bible as our main textbook. OCS strives to follow and surpass the Ontario Curriculum requirements. We supplement our course of instruction with curricular resources and textbooks that are written from a Christian perspective.

Q: Are Orillia Christian School and its staff part of a larger certified body of schools and teachers?
A: Orillia Christian School is an independent school registered with the Ministry of Education. It is affiliated with the Edvance Christian Schools Association and with Christian Schools International. All of our teachers are certified with the Ontario College of Teachers and many also hold a Christian School Teacher’s Certificate.

Q: What is the tuition cost?
A: The tuition is based on a family rate, so the number of children from one family does not affect the tuition rate. Further to this, Orillia Christian School offers discounts based on our tuition grid. With the grid, families pay a different rate based on their family income. Additional discounts and bursaries can also be applied for to help reduce the cost of tuition. Families who only have students in part time Kindergarten also pay a reduced tuition.

Q: Does Orillia Christian School provide bus transportation?
A: In order to help keep tuition costs lower, OCS does not provide bus transportation. Parents/guardians are responsible for arranging transportation to and from school.

Q: Does the school have uniforms?
A: Presently the school does not have uniforms. The school does have a dress code policy and senior students have gym uniforms. Additionally, families can purchase OCS t-shirts that students wear on chapel days.

Q: Can parents/guardians be involved in the school?
A: Yes! There are many areas where parents/guardians can be involved at the school and we highly encourage this. There are opportunities to volunteer in school such as: helping in a classroom or driving for field trips. Furthermore, there are opportunities to help out with fundraising events like our walkathon, auction, or golf tournament. There are also opportunities to serve on different committees like our finance or building committees.

Q: Does Orillia Christian School have a Special Education program?
A: OCS believes that Christian education should be available to all students. Our student support services helps enable students who are experiencing difficulties to succeed in the learning environment by providing assistance through the writing and implementation of IEPs as well as student withdrawal support. OCS works with families prior to enrollment to make sure that we are able to meet the needs of their children.
