I was born in the Netherlands and spent the first nine years of my life there. My parents bought a farm in Canada when I started Grade Four. This transition was a real challenge for me, but God is so faithful and provided all that I needed to grow and learn. I remember being a student in grade one and wanting to be a teacher just like my aunt who was doing a student teaching stint at our elementary school. Through the transition in Canada, my teachers at the Drayton Christian School were very compassionate and my desire to teach continued. After finishing high school and spending a number of summers working at Camp Shalom, I attended Redeemer College and then the University of Ottawa for my Bachelor of Education. I met my future husband at Camp Shalom, and we were married after I graduated from teacher's college. I spent a number of years teaching at the Christian School in Clinton before we moved to Grand Rapids where my husband attended seminary. We have been blessed with four children, and we currently live in Oro where my husband serves as the pastor at Covenant Christian Reformed Church. OCS is a vibrant Christian school, and I am very thankful to be a part of the teaching staff here.
